FATHER CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS IN LAPLAND BEFORE CHRISTMAS AT YLLAS
Yllas’s seven fells lie east of Europe’s longest free streaming river, the Tornio-Muoniojoki, just over a 100 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. Dominated by its eponymous fell and with two original Sami villages, Akaslompolo and Yllasjarvi, this unique fell area is renowned for its subtle landscapes and awesomely dramatic scenery. HOTEL YLLASHUMINA Family owned by Tovi Quist, a one time Olympic skier, and his wife Meeri, the hotel is a unique log cabin hotel with a colony of cabins built in original Finnish style huddled around a central building housing a restaurant, sitting room and bar. Meeri’s uncle, Aapi Akaslompolo (sic), started the hotel by adding a loft to his barn as overnight accommodation for skiers and the latter’s description of the place as humming (humina) has stuck ever since. Each cabin has 4 beds, 2 of which are on an upper gallery, private WC/shower, telephone, radio, hair dryer and drying cupboard.
